Gods of Olympus is a 5-reel, 20-line slot game that transports you to a mythological time when Grecian Gods ruled the universe. Imagine immortal beings controlling everything from the force of nature to the destiny of the people who worshiped them. Will Athena bless you with a bit of wisdom, ensuring you place the perfect bet? Or will Zeus conjure a thunderstorm with enough rain to wash away your fun? Should you, a mere mortal, put your fate in the hands of the Olympians? Of course, you should! After all, when you play Gods of Olympus, you have the option to play the demo game for free or bet with real money.
The Gods of Olympus intro screen is impressive, to say the least. The short intro video boasts an animation of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which is located in Athens, Greece. Through the columns of the temple, you see mountains on the horizon. The greyscale animation combined with the powerful background music leaves you wondering whether the gods are on your side or the game will leave you banished to the underworld.
Unfortunately, after the intro video, the design of the actual game isn’t quite as impressive as you think it will be. Against a blue background, outlined with images of the temple’s columns, a mixture of Greek symbols, relics, and images of Olympian Gods scroll by sealing your fate. The good news is, the simple design makes gameplay easy to understand.
You start the game by placing your bet. You have the option to choose anywhere from one to 20 lines and from one to five coins. This allows you to bet anywhere from $0.10 to $10. To adjust your bet, simply click the arrows next to the line and coins sections at the bottom of the screen. Clicking through the line options shows the lines on your screen so that you know exactly what order the symbols need to be in for you to win. The lines can also be seen at any time by clicking the Show Win Lines button at the bottom of the screen. Once you’ve placed your bet, all you have to do is click the spin button to play.
The game also gives you the option to play using the maximum bet, which means you automatically bet 20 lines and five coins — which equals $10. Additionally, you have the option to choose autobet, which lets you select a bet amount for a specific amount of spins.
When all of the symbols match across each of the five reels, it’s considered a normal win. In this case, the highest win on each line is paid out. Scatter and bonus symbols also trigger automatic wins when they are shown on consecutive reels from left to right and at least three symbols are shown. If you have three scatter symbols — which feature an image of Zeus with his lightning bolt — you get 100 coins, four scatter symbols gives you 320 coins, and five scatter symbols gives you 750 coins. If you have three bonus symbols — which feature Poseidon with his pitchfork — you get 110 coins, four bonus symbols gives you 340 coins, and five bonus symbols give you an additional 800 coins.
Landing three or more scatter symbols supplies you with free spins. The scatter symbols can appear anywhere in view to start your free spins, and all of the prizes you win during your free spins are doubled. Your free spins are considered part of the current bet cycle, so you can’t win more free spins during your free spin play. Also, your free spin play starts automatically anytime three of the Zeus scatter symbols appear.
When three of the Poseidon bonus symbols appear anywhere on the screen, it opens up a bonus round. During the bonus round, you’re presented with five mystical urns. You simply pry open the urns to see how many coins the Gods have awarded you.
Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war, and useful arts, dons the front of the wild symbol. She only appears on the third wheel and can be substituted for any prize symbol with the exception of the scatter and bonus symbols. This makes it easier for you to win at any given time. When the wild symbol appears, you receive the highest payout possible for your winning combination.
Despite the simple game design, Gods of Olympus is a fun game overall. You have the option to play on your computer or via mobile apps, and with the option to play free or with real money, you don’t have to risk losing money if you don’t want to. If you’re looking for a game that’s simple to understand or you’re a beginner, Gods of Olympus is a good option.
