There’s no place in the world that matches the beautiful enigma of the sea. While we know a lot about the surface of the Earth’s water, the endless darkness beneath it remains a mystery in many ways. Riches of the Sea by 2 By 2 Gaming takes you on a journey far beneath the sea’s surface in search of treasure and fun. The first thing that sticks out to me about this slot game is its design. The background is a beautiful blue ocean near the sea floor, and the muted bubbles soundtrack adds to the feeling that you’re sitting peacefully in the depths of the sea. If you’re lucky, you may even get to see a couple of mermaids and other creatures of the sea.
Riches of the Sea has pretty much everything you’d expect from a 5-reel, 3-row slot game. There are a handful of symbols, including a free spin symbol and a wild symbol. As far as gameplay goes, the one area where Riches of the Sea falls short is its settings. Although you can adjust the number of lines used in this game in addition to your bet amount, the only way to do so precisely is by using the numbered rectangles on either side of the board. Clicking the “Lines” button will only toggle between 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 lines.
For the symbols in Riches of the Sea, 2 By 2 Gaming went with a host of undersea creatures and imagery as well as playing card-inspired symbols made of water ranging from 10 to A. Unlike many other slot games, the 10, J, Q, K, and A symbols are all worth the same amount. The next symbol is a three-way tie. The clownfish, squid, and dolphin are all worth the same amount, except the clownfish pays for 2 matches while the others only pay for 3+. Next up is the shark symbol, followed by the whale and, finally, the Riches of the Sea symbol—the most valuable in the game.
The wild symbol is denoted by a mermaid and can take place of any non-bonus symbol. The bonus symbol, a clam with the word “Bonus” written in its mouth, gives you free spins. Landing 3 clams anywhere on the board gives you 8 free spins, 4 clams gives you 12 free spins, and 5 clams gives you 16 free spins. If a land a mermaid as part of a winning line during your free spins, your win is multiplied. These spins are played automatically using the bet you made to trigger them, and your total winnings are tallied up and rewarded to you at the end.
Testing a slot game out before you play for cash can help you get a feel for the game and decide whether or not it’s something you want to spend money on. Riches of the Sea is available online (it can easily be found via a Google search), but I had some problems getting it to work in Chrome. Conversely, Mozilla Firefox didn’t seem to have any issues playing this game.
Unfortunately, as is often the case with slot games, there is no mobile version available on Google Play or the App Store. And since the game requires Adobe Flash Player to work, you won’t be able to access it via a web browser on your smartphone or tablet, either.
Whether you’re looking for a break from 100-line slot games or just something with a unique look and feel to it, Riches of the Sea is a good choice. The game is designed really well; the board looks great, the sound effects and soundtrack fit the imagery, and the reels spin smoothly. While this game does lack some of the more advanced features that newer slot games often have, that’s part of what makes it a good slot game. It’s a good choice for anybody who’s looking for something simple and fun.
One feature I would have liked to see in Riches of the Sea is a legitimate bonus game instead of just free spins.
Overall, this game plays as beautifully as it looks, so you’ll definitely want to give it a shot.
