Lady Joker is a five-reel, four-row slot game that has the potential of being very lucrative despite its dearth of feature rounds or free spins. Designed by Amatic, Lady Joker is available on mobile, tablet and desktop devices, in free or paid modes.
While no one would claim Lady Joker is a high-definition, graphics-heavy slot, it has a more consistent theme than most Amatic games. Every symbol is related to playing cards, which in turn gives the main reels a connection to the gambling feature. There’s also a wider variety of sound effects than in the average Amatic slot. The reels and main buttons are large, making the game easy to follow.
Lady Joker has a maximum of 50 paylines. Between 10 and 2,000 credits can be bet on each line. This results in a broad betting range of 10 to 100,000 credits. Adjusting the lines and bets are easily done using the Line and Bet buttons.
The player can play one spin at a time with the Start button. Gameplay can be expedited using the Auto Start button which triggers and stops automatic spins.
When playing individual spins, the player must click either the Collect or Gamble button after a win. If the player chooses to gamble, he or she can risk the spin’s winnings by guessing a facedown card’s suit or color. Picking the right color doubles the payout, while selecting the correct suit quadruples the winnings. An incorrect guess forfeits the entire payout.
A win occurs when three or more consecutive matching symbols appear from left to right, starting with the leftmost reel, on a played payline. The only two exceptions to this rule are the Aces and Scatter symbols, detailed below.
The regular symbols and their payouts are:
A joker mask is the slot’s scatter symbol. It generates wins when three or more appear anywhere on the played paylines, providing some of the game’s best payouts.
The game’s biggest excitement comes from the Lady Joker herself. She is the wild symbol, substituting for all symbols other than the scatter. These wilds appear as stacked rows on reels two, three and four. If one, two or three of the wilds show up on the row, then it acts as a regular wild. If an entire stack fills the reel, the wild pays a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x on all connected winnings.
Even though it has no feature game, Lady Joker slot makes up for it with potentially excellent winnings with stacked wild symbols. Amongst my 200 spins on the free demo, stacked wilds turned out wins of 31,200, 52,750 and 92,000 on bets of 500 credits.
Because there are four rows, and the symbols are aligned in stacks, there are many potential win combinations. Unfortunately, most of those win combinations pay poorly. In fact, almost half of the regular symbol “wins” pay less than the bet.
Another drawback is the usual problems with Amatic’s help screen. Firstly, it’s not easy for a new player to locate. Secondly, it provides no information about the gambling feature. Thirdly, its description of the wild symbol is technically incorrect. A wild symbol does not create a multiplier, a stack of four wild symbols does so. Also, it doesn’t mention that multiple wild stacks do not offer multiple multipliers.
Some players may be disappointed by the absence of free spins and feature games, but with a little patience they’ll relish seeing the wilds and scatters. New and less-choosy gamers will enjoy the easy gameplay, and look forward to every appearance of Lady Joker herself.
