Almost every slot software house has a game based on the Persian tales of Aladdin and the Genie of the Lamp. This one from Amaya is beautifully produced, and has some surprises too. When you hit the free games bonus game round, the regular symbols all switch to gems. There are two separate bonus games which are nested within this free spins round. The first one involves unlocking the vault to reach the treasure. After that you have to follow paths on a map to win big prizes.
Many slot machines have numbers either side of the reels showing the win-lines. I have not come across a game before where these are quite as ornate as those on Aladdin’s Legacy slot. Each of the 20-line markers is embellished with loops of gold. You can adjust the number of credits per spin (20, 40, 60, 80 or 100) and choose the coin size of between 1c and 25c. This lets you spin for between 20c and $5 per spin. You need to search for the spin button. Once you see that the lamp has 2 arrows on it, you’ll spot it easily next time.
The pay table is dynamic, showing prizes for your different bet amounts. To keep things clear, the prizes below are for $1 spins.
Wild symbols have the biggest single prize. This shows a purple magic carpet being ridden by Aladdin. If you line up 5 of these you get 12,500 coins. In addition, the wild will create wins with the other (not scatter) symbols by substituting for them.
Aladdin, looking at you sideways through a purple hood, is next on the prize list. This is worth 7500 coins for 5 of a kind. Aladdin is one of only 3 symbols which pay from 2+ from the left. The others are the Oasis (3750 for 5), and the lowest paying symbol, the jack.
The famous gold lamp does appear – this is a scatter symbol. It does not have a prize, instead triggering the free spins bonus game. You get 10 spins for 3, 15 for 4 and 20 for 5 lamps.
When you trigger the free spins, each of the reels individually pivots 180 degrees. You’ll now see brightly colored gems instead of the symbols from the base game.
The wild symbol is very bright, and shows 3 different gems with a purple background. This is worth 12500 coins for 5 (again, assuming $1 bets). There are now diamonds (5000 coins for 5), sapphires (1500) and other gems to create the mid-size and smaller wins.
A new symbol is added to the reels for this bonus game. This is a stone lock, a circle containing different gemstones. If you hit this on the 5th reel, then you start the 2-part picks game.
First, the lock expands, you get to pick 3 gems from the outside, which are moved into 3 empty spaces in the middle. These each award a credit win. When you add the 3rd one, there is a sequence where you see if you managed to unlock the vault. If not, then your prize is awarded and you continue with your free spins. If it unlocks, you get to play the 2nd part of the bonus.
You now have to pick your way through a forked map, which is carved into the wall. Each successful pick earns you some credits. If you make it all the way to the end, you will win a bigger prize (you got to the genie’s treasure hoard).
You might expect purples and gold on a Persian game – whether you will have seen a design as rich and detailed as Aladdin’s Legacy is a big question. The intro video shows a quest through desert to a tomb in an oasis. Above the reels you will see an oasis, and an ancient city.
Symbols are extremely detailed, they are in boxes and close together – adding to the richness of the design. You’ll get animations with the wins for each of the higher paying symbols. I really like the way the reels pivot for the bonus game. The animations for the two picks games are also well worth checking out.
This slot has a lot of good things going for it. The production and design are excellent, and the animations smooth too. You’ll have plenty of chances to win big – both in the base game (line up the wilds) and in the bonus feature. Nested bonus games sometimes make for long stretches between features. On this slot, the picks games that you access from the free spins are well worth waiting for.
