Cleopatra was the last active ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt, being the Queen between the years of 51 BC and 30 BC. It’s been clear ever since that Cleopatra made quite an impact. The Egyptian ruler features widely in film, TV and literature and this shows no sign of letting up. Cleopatra is also the star of many online slots and this Amaya designed game is another to add to the list.
In this game she is known as Cleo, so it’s clear that the developers must have been on first name terms with the lady herself. Unusually in the current slot scene, this game has no free spins bonus round. The highlights include an interesting picks round and the original ‘Crazy Jackpots’ more than make up for this.
Much like many other slots today, this game is played out on five reels, each of those reels showing three symbols when they come to a stop. What is unusual however is the fact that the game has only nine win lines and players even have the option to play fewer (any number between one and nine), meaning this game will appeal to those who like to enjoy more spins for their money. Players will simply choose the number and the coin value, then multiply the two to find their total stake for each spin.
A look at the pay table shows that a Tutankhamun style tomb is the highest paying standard symbol, winning you 750 coins for the maximum five in a row. A sphinx and the Eye of Ra are next and each comes with a top prize of 200 coins, while the Ankh pays 150 coins. These standard symbols are completed by the playing cards 10, J, Q, K and A.
Cleopatra herself, who looks out from the reels in a sultry fashion, is the wild symbol and will substitute for any other symbol in the game apart from the scatter symbol.
The first bonus feature is centered on the pyramid scatter symbol. You’ll win an instant prize when this appears 2, 3, 4 or 5 times across any of the reels, starting with your stake back for the minimum 2 scatters and a 100x your stake win for the maximum 5. Land three or more scatters and you’ll also enter the bonus feature as well as land that win.
This bonus feature sees you taken to a new screen showing a wall full of hieroglyphics and every time you pick you will unveil either a credit amount or a multiplier. You’ll continue in this fashion until you reveal the trap door, which will signal the end of the feature.
The other bonus feature is based around the ‘Crazy Jackpots’. You’ll see when you enter the game that there is a cash amount shown on each of the nine win line indicators. The way to win one of these jackpots is to hit five Cleopatra symbols in a row. You’ll now win the appropriate jackpot based upon which of the nine win lines you landed the five symbols on. Land just four Cleopatra’s’ in a row and you’ll pick up 200 coins.
This Amaya designed slot opens up with an image of a scantily clad Cleopatra eating a bunch of grapes and this sets the scene for the game nicely. The game itself is played out on reels framed in gold, while two ornate bronze pillars stand either side. The game is a vibrant looking one, with the variety of colorful images making for a nice contrast against the plain white reels. The best symbol of all is Cleopatra herself, the striking Queen certainly grabbing your attention. The accompanying sound is a little basic in parts, but there are some nods to the ancient Egyptian theme.
Cleo Queen of Egypt is one of a number of slots based around the same theme and this slot doesn’t do quite enough to put its head above the parapet and become one of the best. Nevertheless, this slot does have some nice aspects. The low number of win lines will appeal to many players, while the pick me bonus feature does gain in excitement the longer it goes on. However, it’s the ‘Crazy Jackpots’ that give this game a real originality and for this reason alone, it should be played at least once.
