Double Panda is a slot with a slightly Far Eastern theme featuring a host of creatures native to that part of the world. Standing either side of the reels are a pair of pandas which gives the slot its name, while other animals on the reels include a snow leopard and a red panda.
The panda is the most influential symbol in the game, offering a huge payout as well as being the wild symbol. A free games feature is a highlight, where you’ll never know exactly how many spins you’ll receive.
This Amaya designed slot is played out on five reels, each of these reels showing three symbols when they come to a stop. The game has a total of 25 win-lines, but players do have the option of playing any number between 1 and 25, while wins are paid from left to right.
The highest paying standard symbol in the game is the snow leopard, which has very distinctive blue eyes. Land this symbol five times in a row and you’ll pocket 1,500 coins, while the red panda is next on the pay table, worth 500 coins. A koi fish and a red flower each have a top prize of 300 coins, while the standard symbols are completed by the playing cards 9, 10, J, Q, K and A. You’ll need to hit at least three in a row of any symbol to land a win, all except for the snow leopard and the red panda who also pay out for just two in a row.
The wild symbol is the Panda itself and as such will substitute for any other symbol in the game apart from the scatter. Every time this wild appears as part of a win, the pay-out is multiplied by two, which is always a nice bonus. This wild is by far the highest paying symbol in the game, worth an incredible 10,000 coins if you manage to hit five in a row. If you hit four in a row, you’ll still pocket 2,000 coins which still outranks any other win in the game. Like the snow leopard and the red panda, you’ll land a win with the wild symbol for just 2 or more in a row.
The final symbol in the game is the scatter which is represented by bamboo shoots. Land two scatters anywhere on the reels and you’ll immediately win your total stake back, while 3, 4 or 5 of these scatters will see you winning 5x, 20x and 100x your total stake respectively. While these pay outs are nice, hitting three or more scatters will also see you gain entry into the free spins bonus feature.
To start each of the bamboo symbols that activated the feature will now reveal a number and you’ll add these numbers together to see how many spins you’ll have. The more scatters you used therefore to activate the feature, the more free spins you are likely to get. There is a nice bonus to this feature in the fact that every time you land a win, the win amount will be trebled (this would make for an incredible time to hit five pandas in a row as the win amount would be an amazing 30,000 coins). More good news is the fact that the free spins can be retriggered, the same number of spins initially won being added to the total.
It’s clear this slot is all about the Pandas and their favorite food Bamboo. Either side of the reels stand the pandas, surrounded by green bamboo shoots, while the frame of the reels is made up of bamboo too. The symbols on the reels are nicely designed, but don’t look as slick as some of the more modern slots today. The mix of creatures and playing cards do add some color to the game, which is only added to by the win line indicators. The accompanying sound is somewhat basic – a greater nod could have been given to the theme.
Double Panda is an enjoyable game but does suffer in the fact that there are so many Asian themed games out there. Nevertheless, the bonus feature is a good one, with some nice variety to the number of spins you’ll receive and the 3x multiplier in play. The huge prize for the wild is a bonus too and each of these together might be reason enough to give this slot a spin. Other popular Asian themed games in the Amaya range include Dragon 8’s and Shogun Showdown.
