Draco’s Fire is a fantasy themed slot from Amaya which sees you visit a land ravaged by dragons. Who Draco is we never find out, but a good guess would be that he is the hero who slays the dragons, as an Excalibur style sword is one of the highest paying symbols.
This game has a number of bonus features which adds a nice level of variety, the highlight of which is the free spins bonus round.
This fantasy themed slot has five reels, but the lay out is slightly larger than usual, as each of the reels shows four symbols when they come to a stop. Because of the slightly oversize reels, the game has a total of 50 win-lines, meaning that if you bet 1 credit per line, a spin will cost 50 credits. You’ll also have the option of betting 2, 3, 4 or 5 credits per line at a cost of 100, 150, 200 and 250 coins respectively.
A look at the pay table shows you that you’ll need to land three in a row of any symbol to land a win, with the largest pays coming for five in a row. The title symbol is the highest paying in the game and is worth 250 coins for five in a row, while the silver sword pays 200 coins. A dragon’s claw and a horn each pay 100 coins while the standard symbols are completed by a Camelot style castle, burning Lava and a small configuration of three huts.
The wild symbol is represented by the red dragon in full view and this will substitute for every other symbol apart from the bonus and scatter symbols. This wild has a small feature where if it appears on reels 2 and 4 it will trigger the ‘Flaming Pays’ where it can set several symbols ablaze. This can lead to a 6x the original pay line win.
The first of the features is based around the dragon’s head symbol, which can be stacked on the reels. If it appears during the base game it will change into a random other symbol and the reels will be re-evaluated, paying out any wins that come your way on the back of it.
When this stacked symbol fills all of reel 3 you’ll receive a nice boost too. Now you’ll find yourself with four free spins and after each spin, all four of these symbols will now turn into the same random symbol, offering the potential for some additional large wins.
The final symbol in the game is another dragon, although this time the dragon seems very happy to be standing on a huge pile of gold. This symbol only appears on reels 1, 3 and 5 and when it appears on all three of these reels during the same spin, you’ll enter the free spins bonus round. Players will enjoy 10 free spins and the good news is that should you hit another three scatters, the feature will be retriggered (ten more spins will be added to the existing total). When activating the free spins feature, players will also enjoy a 2x total bet win to go alongside the free spins wins.
Draco’s Fire is set against the backdrop of a huge cave which is full of gold, the red and gold color scheme of the backdrop repeated on the reels. Graphically, all of the symbols are very colorful. The design is a little basic in parts, although it does become much more impressive when the dragon appears and breathes fire over the reels. The accompanying sound is good, adding to the atmosphere of the game with a movie like soundtrack.
Although the visuals could certainly be improved upon, there is enough action in this game to recommend it. The changing bonus symbol is a nice original touch, especially when you land the four free spins too, while the flaming wilds can give you a nice instant cash boost. Having a free spins bonus round on top of this only improves the game further. The only thing missing is a bonus game outside of the reels, but this is a small criticism of an otherwise enjoyable slot. If you enjoy the fantasy themed games, Amaya has several other options. These include Dragon Sword and Arthurs’ Quest.
