You’ll play this slot against the backdrop of a castle with mountains of gold and treasures spilling out of it. King Richer also has the potential to make you a little wealthier. You’ll need to line up crowns, scepters or gold on the reels. When you do make a win, there is a fanfare of royal trumpets to declare the good news.
As well as some bigger line wins, Amaya’s retro King Richer slot has a progressive element. This takes the form of coins above the reels. These increase the number of free spins you get, and can also add multipliers. That free spins round takes you to new smaller set of reels. You’ll spin some different symbols and will win on every spin.
The setup is very basic for this 5 reel video slot. There are 20 win lines, which are fixed in place. You can bet from 1c per line, up to $10, for spins between 25c and $250. The standard Amaya configurable auto play is on offer.
You’ll want to see the King Richer logo on the reels as often as possible. This is the highest paying symbol during the base game. It pays 1000 coins for 5 of a kind, 500 coins for 4 and 200 coins for 3. The slot standard of a red 7 comes next – at 750 coins for the full set of 5. Bars symbols (in the usual 3, 2 and 1 format) complete the higher paying symbols.
Crowns and scepters join 3 fruit symbols to complete the regular symbols. The fruit symbols wear crowns! There is a small consolation prize for 3 or more mixed bar symbols on a win-line.
King Richer himself, who looks very happy with a big brown beard and jeweled crown, is a wild symbol. He will substitute for the regular symbols listed above. When the King gets involved, all the win amounts are doubled compared with what is listed on the pay table.
Coin symbols do not create wins on their own – usually appearing one at a time. These will add 1 to the progressive element of the bonus game. Each time you get one, an extra free spin is banked (along with a multiplier when you get several of these). A line of coins will appear above the reels from time to time to show you how many you have banked.
To trigger the special feature, you need a bonus symbol (which says bonus with a knight’s helmet) on reels 1 and 5 on the same spin. When you get this, you will see a yellow and red carpet roll out from above the reels. This shows how many spins you get. The default is 7 spins with a 1x multiplier. The number of spins you banked from the gold coins, and your multiplier if you got far enough, are added here.
You then spin on a smaller set of 3 reels. There are only 5 symbols on this – and a big top prize. If you get 3 of the King Richer logos, you win 5000 coins. The other symbols are 7’s, bars, crowns and cherries. You get a prize every spin, as these are triggered for 1 of a kind wins.
Gold treasures dominate the design of this slot, there is certainly more than an average King’s ransom around the reels. The graphics are not the latest, more quirky than detailed. Behind the reels you will see a rich purple pattern. All the symbols are nicely drawn, though the King stands out. He has some real character to him. I like the way that crowns have been put on the regular fruit symbols.
Animations are restricted to the rolling out of a carpet, and upward movement of the coins. When you win you will find flashing movement around the winning symbols. The sounds of trumpets adds a lively edge to this slot. Unsurprisingly, this can get a little jarring at times.
Although it is slightly older than many Amaya titles, King Richer is still an entertaining slot. I like the progressive element to the free spins round – and the separate set of reels does add to variety. The only thing standing between you and the gold is the constant blaring of the trumpets.
