This is one of two slots themed on the famous German beer festival Oktoberfest from Amaya. The other is Lucky Lager, which is the most modern of the two. By contrast Oktoberfest is an older 9-line slot. The theme is unmistakably German, with accordions, sausages and giant ‘Steins’ of beer on the reels. One thing that stood out is the speed of this game. The reels stop really quickly!
There is only a single feature – a beer barrel bonus. This involves choosing from kegs of beer. Each pick gets you a multiplier of your total bet amount. Unusually, the Oktoberfest slot does not have a free spins bonus round.
9 Lines is on the low side these days. This video slot was created at a time when this was the normal amount. These lines are marked with colored beers at either side of the reels. You can bet up to 5 coins per line. Keep clicking the ‘Bet 9’ button and you will see this going up and then returning to 1 on the 6th click. The smallest coin bet is just 1c per line.
Wild symbols show a horse, with the word ‘wild’ written underneath it. This only substitutes for 2 other symbols – the blonde lady server and the male drinker. The wild also has the highest single prize. This is 5000 coins for 5 of a kind. Keep in mind that you are only playing for 9 coins per spin (or multiples of this), making this a big prize in proportion to your bet.
All the top 3 symbols pay all the way down to a single one on the left-hand reel. The lady is the highest, worth 1600 coins for 5, with the guy worth only 800 for 5.
There are no playing card symbols in the Oktoberfest slot. The remaining (lower paying) symbols include a hat (complete with feather), keg, sausage, pipe and accordion.
One thing that confused me about this online slot machine the first time was that there are 3 different bonus symbols. These are green, yellow and orange and show a full glass, bottle and an empty glass. It turns out that there is only one bonus game – and that you need 3 consecutive symbols which match to trigger it. These do not need to start at the left-hand reel.
When you do trigger the bonus game, the reels will disappear. Instead you see a pile of kegs, each with a tap. This is a simple picks game. You click on these kegs, which reveal multipliers of your total bet amount. This can be 1x, 2x or 5x. You keep clicking until you hit a keg which says ‘collect’, at which point the bonus is over.
If you are lucky enough to hit the ‘collect’ first time, then all the multipliers are yours. The worst possible outcome is to click one 1x, and then hit the ‘collect’ second!
Depending on how many matching bonus symbols you got during the triggering spin, you can get a multiplier on your winning total. If you got 4 bonus symbols your total win is doubled. With 5 bonus symbols this has a 3x multiplier. The top win is 2700 coins.
I’m unsure exactly how a horse fits in with Oktoberfest, though you’ll find one above the reels to the left. There is also a blonde lady and gentleman wearing a green hat. The logo is made up of frothing beer.
Symbols are basic, though look smart. These spin on a white backed set of reels. There are no animations, only flashing colored lines which link up the symbols when you win. In fact, the only animation in the game is the beers filling up when you choose a keg during the beer barrel bonus game. This also has the only music, a burst of an accordion before you start your picks.
This is not the newest slot online, though it does have some character. The thing that stood out for me is not the wins or the feature game – it is the speed. I have not come across a faster running slot before anywhere! There is some big win potential, and if you get the beer barrel bonus with a big win multiplier, you could find pouring those beers to be very lucrative!
