There are now three versions of the Firelight slot game. The original, which is a live casino machine, has been updated with better graphics and smoother game play – though the game itself remains the same – for ‘Firelight 2’. At the same time there is a paid app of this game, which can be downloaded from the Apple app store. This version cannot be played for real money. Firelight is not currently available at online casinos, though as more and more Aristocrat slots find their way online, this could change soon.
There is a mythical theme to this game, which is based on several legends from different genres. The central concept is a fiery phoenix, with ancient South American imagery, jewels and drums thrown in. This is a 243-ways ‘reel power’ slot. These games dispense with the old concept of win-lines. Instead, all combinations starting on the left hand side produce wins. This makes it easier to follow once you are used to the idea. As long as you have one of each symbol on consecutive reels, you’ll know that this is a win.
Firelight has the familiar hallmarks of all Aristocrat slots. This includes the galloping clicks sound as the reels come to a halt. There quirky computer sounding tunes when you hit a win are also present, as are the playing card symbols. You will also have the opportunity to gamble any wins by choosing either the color or the suit of a playing card.
With no traditional win lines, you’ll need to set your bet using the coin denominations and credits instead. You click the ‘Bet’ and ‘Reels’ to select these. The key thing is to look at the ‘Total Bet’ which is on the top left of the screen and shows how much you are spinning for in coins. I recommend playing all 5 reels, as there are wild symbols and you’ll maximize the number of lines they can be involved in this way.
There is an auto play feature, and a menu button which gets you to the pay firelight pay table and game rules.
The top symbols in this game are the phoenix (which is the scatter, triggering the bonus round), the volcano which is wild and the golden jewelry in the form of the ring, the amulet and the drum. You’ll find the reel-power setup gives you multiple smaller wins while you are waiting for the free spins feature to kick in.
Wild symbols are stacked, and also give you multipliers on your win. If you hit 3 volcanoes across the center reels, then you get 3x wins. Again with the 243 combinations, this can lead to some nice payouts.
Hitting 3, 4 or 5 of the Phoenix Scatter symbols in this game will trigger the free spins round with 6, 8 or 10 spins respectively. This is a low number compared to some other slots. What you’ll find is that the ‘merging’ reels (1 and 2 synchronize symbols, as do 4 and 5) make up for this. Since you’ll start with 2 of each symbol each time, any wilds in the center reel will generate a lot of wins. If you get stacked wilds, then you should enjoy some very big payouts from this bonus round.
Did You Know? The Legend of the Phoenix– The legend of the phoenix originated in ancient Greece. Central to this myth was a bird which was able to resurrect from its ashes when it died. This has entered popular culture in many forms, with the most recent being the Harry Potter movie of the same name. This myth was also found in early forms on Christianity.
This is a nicely put together game, which is better than many of the titles which have already been transitioned online. While the mythology is mixed, the multipliers during normal play and synchronized reels during the bonus round make up for this with the potential for some big wins. You can also enjoy the (play money) version of this game on your iPhone with a specially designed paid app.
