Jewel of the Dragon Slots

Play for Free

The Jewel of the Dragon slot machine is just one of the many Asian-themed titles produced by Bally Technologies for land-based casinos. Suitable for both penny players and high rollers, this 5-reel, 40-payline game includes a trio of bonus rounds to spice up your gaming experience. For those who’ve yet to play it, this review is meant to provide a solid introduction to the rules and features of the game.

Special Pay Rules

No matter what type of slot you use, you’ll notice that the game has specific rules governing gameplay. While these are often taken for granted, I wanted this Jewel of the Dragon review to be as thorough as possible. Therefore, here are some items to keep in mind:

  • All pays are located left to right in adjacent order on the winning line. The only exception is the scatter, which can appear in any position on the reels.
  • If multiple wins occur on a payline, only the largest one is paid.
  • All active paylines are fixed.
  • All plays and pays are voided in the case of a malfunction.
  • Scatter pays are multiplied by the total stake wagered.

Cost Per Spin

Like most slots from Bally Technologies, the number of paylines is fixed, which means each of the game’s 40 lines have to be activated per spin. The lowest possible wager is 0.01 per line, for a total cost of 0.40. The highest is 10.00, which allows high rollers to risk up to 400.00 per spin.

Base Game Payouts

Each slot machine comes with a pay table, which is a rundown of the various symbols and their relative worth when part of a successful payline. This holds true for the Jewel of the Dragon slot machine from Bally, and we’ll be discussing each of the winning icons below.

Keep in mind, however, that the value of the reels isn’t fixed on most Bally products. Instead, the amount rises or falls based on the size of the player’s wager. The figures below are just one possible example of what the pay table can look like.

  • Bonus – When part of a winning combination, this icon pays 40.00 for three matches, 80.00 for four, and 200.00 for five. Getting three or more of these symbols results in the Free Games bonus round being activated.
  • Wild – Pays 15.00 for three matches, 50.00 for four, and 100.00 for five. When three or more of these icons turn up on the reels, the player is awarded free spins. The symbol also substitutes for all others, with the exception of the scatter.
  • Crown and Money Shield – Both of these icons are worth the same amount when making up a winning payline. Examples include the following: 15.00 for three matches, 25.00 for four, and 75.00 for five.
  • Bell – Pays 10.00 for three matches, 25.00 for four, and 75.00 for five.
  • Ace and King – Both of these icons pay 10.00 for three matches, 20.00 for four, and 50.00 for five.
  • Queen and Jack – Both symbols pay 5.00 for three matches, 15.00 for four, and 50.00 for five.
  • Ten and Nine – These low-ranking symbols provide the most meager payouts of the game with 5.00 for three matches, 10.00 for four, and 50.00 for five.

Free Games Bonus Feature

When a minimum of three Bonus or Wild icons turn up on the reels, the free spins phase is activated. These complimentary spins are awarded as follows:

  • Three Bonus or Wilds result in eight free games, plus 1x the total stake.
  • Four Bonus or Wilds result in eight free games, plus 2x the total stake.
  • Five Bonus or Wilds result in eight free games, plus 5x the total stake.

Additional free games can’t be earned during this phase. All bonus spins are played at line value of the triggering spin.

Drop Zone Bonus Feature

Purple diamond overlay symbols appear on reels two through four. These icons are present in addition to underlying game icons, and they don’t affect the value of the latter.

When three or more diamond symbols appear, the Drop Zone Bonus Feature is triggered. When this occurs, the player is asked to choose one of three diamond symbols to reveal the Bonus Drop Zone.

This special zone is then dropped onto the reels, and any symbol within the area is transformed into a wild. Wins are then calculated, at which point the bonus round comes to an end.

Dragon Nudge Bonus Feature

The slot utilizes a number of Hot Zone patterns, and each is meant to grant the player some manner of cash payout. If, however, the pattern falls entirely outside the reel window, then the customer may be compensated by the random activation of the Dragon Nudge Bonus.

When this occurs, a dragon appears and nudges the Hot Zone down onto the reels. Any symbols that are now part of the zone are transformed into wilds, and the game then evaluates possible winnings. Once this has been taken care of, the bonus concludes.

The Jewel of the Dragon slot is rather plain when it comes to graphics and sound, but it makes up for this deficiency by offering three unique bonus rounds and a wide range of betting options. You’ll likely find more appealing options on the casino floor, but those who favor reliability (with a twist) should consider giving this title a try.
