From the silver screen to zoos across the world, people can’t get enough of monkeys. And it’s hard to blame them. Although primates are often portrayed as funny, dopey animals in cartoons, they’re actually some of the smarter creatures on the planet. Just take a look at some monkey videos on YouTube—but be careful, you could end up spending the next few hours watching orangutans riding bikes or buying a drink from a vending machine.
When you’ve pried your eyes away from the millions of cute monkey videos, check out Monkey Money by Betsoft. It’s a really neat cartoonish 5×3 slot game with incredibly simple gameplay. It may not have a ton of extra features like other games do, but it makes up for that with solid, simple gameplay.
Monkey Money has 5 reels, 3 rows and 9 paylines. You can change the number of active paylines, but your options are limited to 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Like most Betsoft games, your bet per line can be any value between 1 and 5. You can set the coin value to a number between 0.02 and 0.50. There is a max bet button in this game but no autoplay feature.
There are a total of 9 symbols in Monkey Money. In order from lowest to highest paying, the symbols are the cherries, plum, 7, watermelon, orange, bananas, palm trees, monkey, and monkey coins. With the default bet of 1 credit per line, the biggest prize you can win is 5,000 credits from matching 5 monkey coin symbols on a payline. If you’re betting 5 credits per line—the highest possible bet—your maximum possible prize is 25,000 from 5 monkey coins.
There is no wild symbol in this game. All payline wins must come from actual matches of the same symbol.
The bonus feature in Monkey Money is triggered by landing 3 coconut symbols. You don’t have to land all of these symbols in one spin, however. Each time a coconut symbol lands on the reels, it will fall off into the monkey’s hands. He will collect the coconuts until you’ve landed 3 on the reels. At this point, the reels will disappear and the bonus game will start. There are four different coconut trees to select from, each of which contains two coconuts. The objective is to choose all of the ripe coconuts before you choose the rotten one. If you choose the rotten coconut, the bonus round is over and you’re rewarded with the credits you’ve earned so far.
Slot games are great fun for money, but sometimes it’s nice to play for fun, too. There is a demo version available of Monkey Money available so you can try it out for free. Look for this game on Google or at an online casino—you won’t even need to sign up for an account until you’re ready to play for cash.
Monkey Money isn’t available for smartphones and tablets, though, which is a really big disappointment considering how perfectly the visual simplicity of this game would mesh with the smaller screens of mobile devices. If you want to play this game, you’ll have to do it on your computer.
There are so many fruit-filled slot games out there—is Monkey Money really worth choosing over all those other options? The answer to this is tough because it largely depends on your feelings about simplicity in slot games.
You can tell Monkey Money is going to be a simple game from the moment you see the visuals. Even the soundtrack and sound effects are very mild and minimalist. Still, though, the game looks very crisp and brings back memories of older slot games.
The gameplay in Monkey Money is really the point of debate. Aside from the pick and reveal bonus game which you can access after you’ve collected 3 coconuts, there really aren’t any extra features. It’s a good approach if you like simplicity, but you may find it a bit too stripped down.
You should really only give this game a try if you don’t mind all of your prizes coming from standard payline wins rather than extra features. It’s still a fun one, though.
