Vampires seem to be all the rage at the moment. With TV series such as True Blood and the Twilight movie series, vampires have been become cool. Immortal Romance continues this theme, featuring four young, attractive and mysterious characters on the reels. Sarah, a director of Pathology has fallen for an immortal vampire named Michael. Sarah’s paranormal best friend Amber is shaken by the arrival of another vampire, Troy, with devilish charm and good looks. This mix makes for an entertaining story-line, especially when Sarah is not all that she seems!
The story makes for a very entertaining slot which utilises the all-ways winning system. The main feature of the game sees you awarded free spins. As you continue through the game, more features open up and you’ll find out more about the intriguing storyline.
The base game of Immortal Romance plays out on five reels, each three symbols high. This slot offers the opportunity of 243 ways to win at every spin due to the all-ways winning system. Instead of featuring win lines, you’ll simply win when you land matching symbols on consecutive reels from left to right.
Sarah represents the highest paying standard symbol in the game, worth 500 coins for five in a row. Michael is next on the pay table at 450 coins, while his fellow vampire Troy pays 400 coins. Amber, who can predict the future, will know when she is about to pay out 350 coins.
Other symbols in the game show a mysterious looking castle, while an ancient spell-book certainly adds mystery to the game. Playing card symbols from 9 through to Ace complete these standard symbols.
The title symbol, in a spooky grey and red, acts as the wild. This will substitute for any other symbol in the game apart from the scatter. Any time you land a win with the wild, your pay-out amount will be doubled.
The first and the minor feature of the game is ‘Wild Desire’. This feature occurs randomly and can turn up to all five reels wild during any spin. This can be a nice surprise and offer up the opportunity of a very nice multi-line win.
The main feature of the game is the ‘Chamber of Spins’. This is activated by landing the gold door knocker scatter symbol 3, 4 or 5 times across any of the reels. When you start playing you’ll immediately enter the ‘Amber’ free spins, but as you enter the feature on more occasions, more features will open up.
Amber Free Spins – You’ll be awarded 10 free spins and every win you land during the feature will be the subject of a 5x multiplier.
Troy Free Spins (available after 5th activation) – 15 free spins are awarded, where vampire bats can randomly add multipliers of 2x or 3x up to a maximum of 6x.
Michael Free Spins (available after 10th activation) – 20 free spins with rolling reels, where each win will increase the multiplier by 1 up to a maximum of 5x.
Sarah Free Spins (available after 15th activation) – 25 free spins with a wild vine symbol on reel 3 which can turn subsequent symbols wilds too. Land 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters and you’ll win an additional 1, 2, 3 or 4 free spins.
As you progress through the game you’ll find out more of the storyline. I won’t give out any spoilers here, but it is certainly worth progressing.
Immortal Romance has a sumptuous dark design. Above the reels is the shimmering title of the slot, flanked by a stone demon and a stone angel. The background to the entire game is black, while each of the characters is designed in rich, dark colours. Each of these characters comes to life when you land a win, only enhancing the game. A slow, romantic soundtrack plays throughout the game, giving Immortal Romance an almost haunting air.
This MicroGaming designed slot has become a firm favourite online and you can certainly see why. The game is unusual in that it’s involving from the start and it is certainly recommended you read / listen to the stories of the four characters. This add to the gameplay which is excellent in itself. You have 243 ways to win on every spin and the feature round is excellent. Keep landing the feature and you’ll open up more ways to play it and the story will continue.
