Kings which are usually found on playing cards come to life in this MicroGaming slot. They take on cartoon personas – each with a love of money. While trumpets sound, you can be lining up the Kings, royal coats of arms and chests full of treasure.
In addition to the rich, regal design, there are some entertaining game-play elements. You will find a picks game where matching 3 Kings will get you a cash prize. There is also a free spins bonus round, which features a 2x multiplier on any wins. This is in addition to the line wins, scatter prizes and wild symbols.
Inside the gold frame that surrounds the reels you will find a 5 by 3 grid. There are 15 win-lines crossing from the left, which are fixed for this game. You will find plenty of options, with flexibility on your coin size, up to 20 coins per line and configurable auto-play options. There is also an option to gamble any wins on the flip of a playing card.
The Kings of Cash slot logo symbol has the biggest regular prize. This is also the wild symbol, replacing any of the Kings, chest, throne and the coat of arms to create extra wins. If you line up 5 of these on one of the 15 win-lines, 5000 coins will come your way. Smaller prizes of 100 coins for 4, 25 for 3 and 10 coins for just 2 from the left are also possible.
There are 4 playing cards, each with animated Kings shown in them. All are looking cheerful, and some have gold, while others shake banknotes. When you win with these kings, they come to life right out of their playing cards. The suits remain in place, which helps separate them (the colouring is similar otherwise).
Hitting 5 of any King is worth 300 coins, with 50 coins for 4 and 10 for 3. Mixing Kings on a win-line does not produce any wins.
With so many Kings around, playing card symbols would not work for the smaller prizes. Instead you will find a chest full of gold, wooden throne and regal coat of arms (showing the card suits) as lower paying symbols.
There are two types of scatter symbols in play. These each have cash prizes, and trigger the different bonus games. The scatter showing a crown will trigger the ‘Kings of Cash’ bonus if you get 3, 4 or 5. The more scatters you see in the triggering spin, the bigger the prizes will be in the bonus game.
You will go to a screen which shows 12 face-down playing cards – with the 4 Kings on either side of these. Each King shows a prize amount. You click on the cards, each of which reveals a different King. When you hit 3 of the same one, this is the prize you receive.
It is possible to win 25 free spins with 5 of the royal pennant scatter symbols. You get 15 spins for 4 and 10 spins for 3. Every win during this bonus feature is doubled. You will see a total feature win count on the bottom left of the screen, and your remaining spins on the top left.
You can retrigger this bonus with 3 or more pennant scatters during play.
The design comes over as rich and humorous at the same time. The logo above the reels is surrounded by gold coins, and the frame of the reels is an ornate gold design. The reels are backed by a royal blue.
The kings are all caricatures, which come to life from their playing card backgrounds very effectively when you line up wins. There are animations for the other symbols too – giving an overall lively feel to the game. Music is classical, and wins are greeted with trumpets.
You will find even better animations during the picks game. Here the Kings react to you picking their card each time you select one. Other than a change in music, the free spins game does not include different effects.
This is a solid and enjoyable game from the archives at MicroGaming. I’m not so sure it would work without the humorous Kings and their animations – though with them it is very enjoyable. The picks game really comes into its own if you trigger it with 4 or 5 crown scatters. Free spins with doubled wins are a welcome sight – for commoners and royals alike!
