It is good to see a 3-reel slot game brought up to date – both in terms of the visuals and the game-play. You’ll find a lot of traditional slot symbols in play, in the form of 7’s and bars. These spin on a very shiny and far bigger set of reels than for most MicroGaming 3-reel slots. With a big spin button, this game looks like it would work well as a mobile slot game too.
Key to the game play are special multiplier symbols. These can appear on any reel, though the ones on the middle reel are key. They are grouped, which allows for several multiplied wins on a single spin. As you will find out below, you also get a special free respin whenever two or more of these multipliers appear.
There are 3 curved reels in play. Unusually for a slot of this size, there are 9 win-lines crossing in every permutation from the left. Your bet size determined by your coin size and number of coins you spin per line. Unlike many 3-reel slots, there is no incentive to bet more coins (wins are proportional to your bet size and level throughout). Wins listed below are for $3 spins, the lowest whole number.
Regular winning combinations are on the smaller side. For this game the bigger wins will come when you combine these wins with the multipliers.
Red 7’s are worth $8 for 3 on any win-line. The combination symbols showing a purple 7 over a single bar symbol are next at $7. Any combination of these 7’s gets you $3. Bars come in the regular 3, 2 and 1 format, and have a small prize for any 3 mixed. The prizes are $5. $3 and $1 for matching 3 of the same ones. Unusually, you can mix bars with the mixed bar / 7 symbol.
Multiplier symbols are key in Mega Money Multiplier. These are oval shaped symbols, with numbers ranging from 2x to 5x on them. On reels 1 and 3 they come in single instances – the same as the regular symbols. On the 2nd reel they come grouped in strips, often with different numbers on each one.
You’ll collect prizes for just one of the multiplier symbols on the reels. This is $4 (assuming that $3 bet) for either the 5x or 2x.
If you get a multiplier in combination with a regular symbol, that win is increased. For example, 2 of the triple bar symbols plus a 5x multiplier is worth $25. The multipliers work together. This means that a 2x, 5x and triple bar shoots up to $50. If you get a multiplier on the middle of reel 2, it can apply to several wins at once.
The biggest prizes come when you line up 3 multiplier symbols. 2x. 5x and 2x across the reels are worth $2000. 2-4-2 gets you $1000 and 20302 $700. If you get 3 of the 2x multipliers in a row, you’ll receive $500. Again, with 9 win-lines in play there is no reason you can’t hit more than one win in a single spin.
Respins occur when you get 2 or more multiplier symbols on the middle reel. You’ll know about this in advance, since when the multipliers arrive, the spin takes longer, and the reels light up a little. Your initial wins are calculated first. You then see an effect on reels 1 and 3, and the game announces (using a voice) that you have a respin. Reels 1 and 3 then spin again, with the multipliers help on reel 2. You will often find extra wins coming in this way.
Most MicroGaming 3-reel slots follow the same layout, with the pay table dominating one half of the screen. Mega Money Multiplier is different, with a huge set of reels taking centre stage. The background is a rich red, with the logo to the right of the reels. These are made to look curved, though a lot more modern than many traditional slot emulations.
There are some visual effects when the multipliers come in. Light will travel down the respinning reels to push the old symbols away. Sounds are much livelier than the electronic beeps you get with many older slots too.
I enjoyed this game, which keeps a lot of traditional slot game-play while adding an extra level of excitement. There are no distracting 2nd screen bonuses, with only the (very welcome) respins to break up the base game spins. 3 multiplier symbols on any of the 9 win-lines can bring you a welcome windfall.
