There is a series of 3 ‘Retro Reels’ slots. These take classic slot symbols, and put them in an up to date game. This game replaces some of the original symbols with diamonds – adding some bling to the classic line up of bars, 7’s and fruits. Compared to the original Retro Reels game, the sounds have changed. Gone are the strange jingles when you spin. These have been replaced with smoother jazz sounds.
Features are the same on Diamond Glitz as the original Retro Reels. The biggest potential profits come from the free spins bonus. All wins are doubled here. You can also respin any reel after any regular spin (win or lose).
You’ll notice the control panel is curved, to look like a real retro slot game from a casino. This game has more lines than the original, with 25 crossing the 5 by 3 grid. You can change this number by hitting the ‘lines’ button. You can also change your coin size between 1c and 25c, and play up to 10 coins per line. You will find the pay table via the ‘View Pays’ button on the left hand side.
Viewing the pay table starts a trad jazz track. The first panel you will see shows you that the top prize is 440,000 coins per spin. Individual wins are headed up by the silver dollar sign. This is worth a generous 10,000 coins for 5 of a kind.
Diamond symbols are common on the reels. There are 3 types – and diamonds also appear behind the bar symbols. Symbols with 3 and 2 diamonds have the same top prize, 500 coins for 5. A single diamond, together with the bars (triple, double, single), red 7 and blue bell are worth 250 for the full 5. Only the cherry has a smaller win. This is worth 200 coins for 5. Mixed diamonds and mixed bars each have consolation prizes.
There is no wild symbol in play for this slot.
An optional feature lets you respin a single reel after each spin. This can be after a win or a loss. Note that if you use auto-play, you will not have the opportunity to use this feature.
You will see 2 arrows which move, saying ‘try respin’ either side of the reels. These point to buttons which say respin, one under each reel. Along with the button is a price that the spin will cost you. This can be pennies (if there is no chance of a win), or higher than your normal spin amount if the probability of a win is higher. This is an entertaining way of having another shot when you ‘just missed’ that big win.
Most online slots require 3 special symbols to trigger a bonus. Retro Reels: Diamond Glitz only needs 3. These symbols say ‘5 Free Spins Bonus’ on them. As the name suggests, you get 5 spins for each one (10 being the minimum to trigger the feature).
You’ll get more jazz, and double prizes on any wins during these spins. You will retrigger for more spins every time you get 2 or more special symbols.
In addition to their role triggering the bonus, these special symbols have a scatter prize. You can win up to 100x your total bet if you get 5 of a kind. You will also get 25 free spins from that same spin!
The designers of this slot really went to town with the diamonds. They have added sparkle at every opportunity – including on 7 different symbols. Your eyes will be drawn to the arrows ‘advertising’ the respin feature. These are backed up with an alert sound, which kicks in after a delay. This sounds like something from a 1980’s Arcade game.
Other sounds are a mix of jazz and electronic beeps and whirrs. While the slot tries to be smooth and laid back, you can tell the designers are going for a retro version of the sound effects. You’ll get crazy electronic jingles when you trigger wins.
If you enjoyed the original Retro Reels slot, then this one will be very familiar. The game is the same, only with a different, more sparkly design. The respin feature adds a new angle compared to most online slots – and is worth checking out. Your biggest wins will come via the free spins. If you are lucky enough to hit an extended run of doubled wins, you could be shopping for diamonds yourself!
