‘Tally Ho’ is a phrase primarily used in the UK during the hunting season. The ‘hunts’ are usually organised by the nobility or upper classes and ‘Tally Ho’ is shouted when a fox is spotted. This MicroGaming designed slot features a number of symbols featuring the trappings of nobility. There are posh cars, big country houses, strawberries and cream and cucumber sandwiches on the reels. Interestingly, the two noble characters in the game are foxes, so it looks like the roles have been reversed.
Highlights of the game include a handy gamble option, a wild symbol with an added multiplier and a free spins round which has the potential to pay high.
This hunt themed slot plays out on the very popular 5×3 reel configuration. The game pays from left to right and has a total of 9 win-lines. This number is on the low side anyway, though you can choose to play any number between 1 and 9. You will also choose the number of coins (between 1 and 10) and the coin value (which starts at 1c and goes all the way up to $2).
Any time you land a win you’ll see the ‘gamble’ option appear. You’ll gamble on either the colour or the suit of a face-down playing card. Pick the colour right and you’ll double your win, pick the suit right and your win is quadrupled. Pick wrong and your win takes no further part in the hunt.
Aside from the wild and the scatter, the two ‘noble’ foxes are the highest paying in the game. A male fox, complete with a cravat and smoking a pipe, has a top win of 750 coins for the maximum five in a row. A female fox with a posh hat holding a petite cup of tea is next and pays 600 coins. The large country house, the impressive yellow Sedan car and a coat of arms pay 400, 250 and 250 coins respectively.
At the lower end of the pay scale you’ll find a series of food and drink symbols. As well as the strawberries and the sandwiches, there are scones, a cheeseboard, cheesecake and a pot of tea.
A bucking horse acts as the wild symbol (perhaps the horse is bucking because it doesn’t want to take part in the hunt?). As the wild, the horse will substitute for every other symbol in the game apart from the scatter. Any time you land a win with the wild, the win amount will be doubled, which is always a nice boost. The horse is also the highest paying symbol in the game, the pay-outs for any other symbols not even coming close. Land five wilds in a row and you’ll win an impressive 6,000 coins.
The scatter symbol is the gold horn which is blown to start the hunt. Land 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere across the five reels and you’ll win 2x, 4x, 25x and 500x your stake respectively. 3 or more scatters will also see you enter the free spins bonus round.
You’ll be awarded 10 free spins and every time you win during the feature; the win amount will be quadrupled. The feature can be retriggered too – land three or more scatters during the free spins and 10 spins will be added to the total.
Fox hunting can be a contentious issue, but MicroGaming have made the subject a humorous, by swapping roles and making the foxes the hunters. This makes for an entertaining game, where all of the symbols are designed in a cartoon style. The design could be said to be somewhat basic, with plain white reels and uncomplicated symbols (a simple leafy backdrop doesn’t really improve things either). The wild symbol does offer some animation which brings the game to life, while the barking of dogs in the background makes for a fitting soundtrack.
If you’re looking for originality in game-play, Tally Ho doesn’t quite make the mark. Like many other slots, this MicroGaming design has five reels, a single wild and a free spins bonus round. The visuals in the game look a little dated too. Nevertheless, there are reasons to give this a spin. The large pay out for the wild symbol adds excitement, while the multiplier for any wild gives you an instant boost too. The 4x multiplier during the feature is excellent, brining the top line prize to an impressive 24,000 coins during the free spins.
