Kitchen Run is a slot where you certainly wouldn’t want to be any kind of an edible creature. To the left of the reels stands an evil looking chef, with a knife in hand while standing over a blender. A rather worried looking pink head peers out from a sea of vegetables. As well as the larger than usual base game, you’ll find added bonus wins based on a shell, while the ‘Kitchen Fight’ free spins round gives players many winning opportunities.
The first thing you’ll notice about Kitchen Run is the fact that each of the five reels is four symbols high, as opposed to the more usual three. The game has a total of 25 pay lines and this number is fixed throughout the game, meaning the only decisions a player has to make pre-spin is the coin value and the bet level.
The control panel is found below the chopping board in grey. To the left of the panel you’ll find the auto-play options, where with one click you can set the slot running for 10, 25, 50 or 75 spins. You’ll move the coin value up and down using arrows to the left and right and you’ll set the bet level in exactly the same way. The other two clickable options are the ‘max bet’ button which will set the bet level to the maximum and also spin, while the ‘spin’ button simply sets the reels in motion at the current bet level.
A snail is the highest paying symbol – this pays 1,250 coins for hitting the maximum five in a row. A purple octopus is next on the pay table, worth 500 coins, while an alarmed looking yellow fish has a top prize of 250 coins. A lobster and a squid pay 150 and 100 coins respectively, while the standard symbols are completed by the playing card letters and numbers 10, J, Q, K and A. All the symbols require the player to hit three in a row to land a win, except for the 10 and the J which require four in a row.
The wild symbol is represented by the word ‘wild’ in the middle of a plate with a lobster claw both above and below it. This wild will substitute for any other symbol in the game apart from the scatter symbol, giving you many more winning opportunities around these 25 lines.
The scatter symbol of the game is represented by a fish, like many other creatures in the game, looking slightly alarmed. This symbol activates the free spins bonus round. Land three scatters anywhere on the reels and you’ll find yourself with 10 free spins, while four or five scatters will give you 15 or 20 free spins respectively.
These aren’t any normal free spins however. During each spin, each of the five ‘ingredients’ on the reels will expand to fill an entire reel. This will give you the opportunity of some very big wins, especially when a series of the same ‘entire reel’ symbols all match up. Other good news is the fact that if you manage to land three or more scatters again, the feature will be retriggered and the number of spins won will simply be added to your existing total.
You’ll also land a random win amount when the shell symbol appears on reel 3, although this doesn’t appear during the free spins.
Kitchen Run is a fun looking slot, although as one of the creatures, you might not think so. The graphics are solid, without ever reaching the heights of some of the slots you’ll find online today. Having all the symbols on top of a chopping board is a nasty but funny touch and the chef to the left of the reels plays the villain of the piece well. Graphically, the game improves during the feature, when all of the edible symbols expand.
The name of this slot is fitting, as if you were one of the creatures on the chopping board, all you’d want to do is run. This game is a fun one and it has to be said that the free spins bonus feature is entertaining and potentially hugely profitable too. The graphics are a little basic however and this fact alone stops this game from ever moving out of the ‘average/good’ category.
