Royals Go Camping Slot

Play for Free

If Her Majesty the Queen of England ever saw this slot, I’m not sure the designers would be able to hold on to their heads! The whole game is designed to (gently) mock her family. It puts caricatures of the Royals on a camping trip. The designers have been careful not to use any real names. At the same time, ‘Prince Bill’ and ‘Queen Lizzy’ are unmistakable.

You’ll find plenty going on with this online slot. There are wilds which can lead to a mini picks game or expand (and double wins) in certain spots. There is also a free spins game, and a multi-part pick-me round where you search for the crown jewels.

Setup and Payouts for The Royals Go Camping

The reels in this game are held up by two soldiers of the Queen’s guard, complete with tall ‘Busby’ hats. These contain 5 reels, 3 rows of cartoon symbols on each, and 30 win lines. You can bet from 1c per line and up. Note that there is a big jump between the smallest bet (30c) and the next smallest at $1.50c.

As you might expect, the best paying symbols show the Royals – or at least caricature cartoons of them. These are headed by the Queen, worth 2500 coins if you hit 5 on a win-line. Prince Philip is next (1000 coins) followed by prince Bill (William), Harry and then some corgis.

Playing card symbols are used for the lower payouts. All of these have camping items alongside them, for example a tent with the king and pot with the queen.

Ravens with Crowns – The Wild Symbols

Wilds play an important role for this game. These are a raven sitting on top of a golden crown. If you hit 5 of these on a win-line, you’ll trigger the top prize of 10,000x your bet. Usually, the ravens will simply complete wins with the regular symbols. If one lands on the 3rd (middle) reel, and wins can be created, it will expand to cover all 3 spots. This will also add a 2x multiplier to that win.

If you get a wild on reel 1 and 5 in the same spin, you’ll get a mini-picks game on the reels. Both wilds will expand and say ‘pick me’ underneath. You pick one, and get an instant cash prize. If you are lucky, this will come with the message ‘pick again’ – allowing you to keep going.

Free Spins and Missing Jewels Bonus Games

Magpies are the scatter symbols. These notorious collectors of shiny objects do not have a prize, their only role is to trigger the free spins bonus. You get 10 free spins for 3, 20 for 4 and 30 for 5 of a kind. The free spins start with a simple cartoon showing the Queen, and go very quickly compared to the main game. You can still get the picks game, bonus or expanding wilds within the free spins.

A rat inside a handbag might seem like an odd choice, though this is the bonus symbol. You need 3 of these to trigger the picks game. This starts off with an intro, that tells you that the crown jewels have gone missing. You then go through a series of picks, starting with choosing a sporting item belonging to Harry, then a bag belonging to prince ‘Bill’ and so on. You get multipliers of your bet amount for each pick – and keep going until you get a ‘game over’ message under one of the items.

Finally for the features, there is a progressive jackpot shown above the reels. This will drop at random, and is not tied to a particular combo of symbols. You can win it at any stake level.

Caricature Design

The setting for this game is anything but regal. You’ll see a very scruffy camp site, with puddles, a book, a frog, a corgi and a crown on a cushion as the spin button. There is a cheeping of birds as an ambient sound, and a piped tune when you spin the reels. The symbols are drawn in a cartoon style, designed to exaggerate the features of the target royals. I thought that the camping gear with the playing card symbols was a nice touch. There are small animations, and a different tune to go with each win.

While the animations do get more involved during the bonus features, these are all fairly basic. It is the overall feel of the game and quirky theme which is the big draw.

Should You Pack Your Bags and Camp with the Royals?

There is enough going on with this game to keep you entertained. It is not too strongly ‘anti-royal’, though does manage to have a good laugh at their expense. The wilds are more complex than with many 888 games – while the free spins and picks bonuses will give you regular boosts to your bankroll.
